I have been reaping the benefits of an annual girlfriend getaway for 7 or 8 years so reading Girlfriends’ Getaway by Kathleen Laing & Elizabeth Butterfield was a little like preaching to the choir. The authors leave no doubt in one’s mind that all women would benefit from spending quality time with the women in their life. Not only were the author’s words in the introduction inspirational but I found the special sidebars throughout the book very helpful.

The K.I.S.S. (Keep it simiple, sister) sidebar offered what I thought to be the most useful and fun bit of information, How to always look your best in a photo. How cool is that? You and your girlfriends will look like movie stars walking the red carpet in your photos even if you are just walking in to a cabin in the woods.

Throughout the book we hear stories from women around the country and how they go on “getaways” with other women and mostly I found it uplifting, fun and entertaining. However, the author’s personal accounts of her getaways with her female relatives were often filled with religious undertones and might not appeal to everyone.

I would recommend Girlfriends’ Getaway for the useful sidebars and the excellent message it sends on “sistering” but only if you can a) embrace the religious undertones or b) gloss over them.
